The Mosaic Floor of the Otranto Cathedral

This was my favorite site and sight on this trip, a cartoon-like, mythological feast from the 12th Century. Unfortunately, most of the floor area is roped off so one can only see it and take pictures at an angle. Fortunately, they were doing some pew rearrangement when we were there and the rope was down in one spot. We took advantage of that to go on to the floor and take some more direct shots until we were shooed out. Here, without much comment, is a selection of those photos.

Looks like an Atlas variation

The central figure here is labeled "Alexander Rex"

One head, four bodies

It says "Infernus Satan," Hell and the Devil no doubt

Tower of Babel scene

The circular inscription, translated from the original Gibberish, reads "In the future a corporation selling coffee will desecrate me."
