Food-Related Matters - Amalfi Coast and Puglia

Wow! An excellent local Primitivo at Cibu in Ceglie Messapica. It had 16 1/2% alcohol, the highest we've ever drank.
The menu at Cibu in Ceglie Messapica, notable for its listing of horse and donkey

Sheep entrails on the left (compacted into a sort of sausage shape. Part of a tasty meal at Cibu in Ceglie Messapica.

Fried veggies at the honest and satisfying Alle due Corti restaurant in Lecce

Mostly eaten before I remembered to take a photo, this superb pasta dish at  Corte de Fiore restaurant in Trani shows just a few pieces of pasta and the thin shell of succulent Mantis Shrimp which Emma later spotted on the waterfront in the photo below.

Spaghetti with sea urchin at Corte de Fiore. OK but not the dish we would have liked. Unfortunately there were not enough sea urchins in the day's catch to have it alone.

Fine octopus with potato and fried anchovies at La Pergola restaurant in Positano

White wine at La Pergola
Excellent local fish at Next2 restaurant in Positano. Shown below as served

A great pasta dish at Il Pirata in Priano (after our five and a half-hour hike on the Path of the Gods from Nocelle)
Excellent fried anchovies at Il Pirata in Priano

Another good white at Il Pirata

Dessert fridge in Alberobello cafe where we unsuccessfully sought a bottle of water

Antipasto at Cibu in Ceglie Messapica. Very good.
Success! Fish sausage at the Michelin one-star Don Alfonso restaurant in St. Agathe, high above Sorrento. The 6 photos below are from that restaurant..

Success! Smoked turbot

Biggest disappointment of the trip. Risotto with sea urchin and caviar lacked flavor.

Failure. A bland ravioli construction

Failure. Overly geometric fish dish

Dry ice generates a smoke effect for the sweets

The kitchen staff at Don Alfonso

Good restaurant right next to church in Anacapri (second town of Capri)

There was a good restaurant right next to this church on the island of Ischia

My only ice cream of the trip
This is a lemon

These are lemons

The fresh figs were excellent

Amuse bouche at Trattoria Antica in Sorrento
Pasta e Fagioli - three types of pasta plus beans, a staple dish at Trattoria del Golfo in Naples

Tomato treasure

Cheese treasure

The volcano which destroyed Pompeii is now a pastry sculpture.

Reputedly the best pizza in Naples at Starita on Via Materdei. It was good but is based on a softer dough base than we are used to.

Hotel rooftop picnic in Naples featuring fried artichokes, stuffed pepper, pickled mushrooms, sauteed peppers

Possibly the best pasta dish of the trip. Spaghetti with anchovies, nuts, raisins and a mild curry dressing at L'Angolino in Naples

One of the many tests of virtue which I passed
