Amalfi and Ravello

They are a logical combination; the old port town of Amalfi, living on tourism with the memory of its former Venice-like power and Ravello, high above in the mountains a half-hour away on amazingly twisty roads which are controlled to allow only one-way traffic at certain particularly narrow points. The bus ride from Amalfi to and from Ravello and later, from Amalfi to Positano, gave us a full taste of the dangers of the road and confirmed our decision not to drive on the Amalfi Coast. The skill of the bus drivers is impressive.
Ravello had a few gardens of note with the views you would expect from the highest places in the highest town in a high area. One such garden, enhanced by classical music playing on its many levels was Villa Rufalo. The winner was Villa Cimbrino, mainly for its awe-inspiring view to end all views. Gore Vidal said it was the most beautiful place in the world. (But he never saw Louse Point.)
Daredevil passengers brave the hair-raising ride from Amalfi up to Ravello.

Daredevil tourist stands at edge of precipice to get a view.

Mummified torsos of tourists who fell line the viewing platform of Villa Cimbrino in Ravello.

I took this photo hanging by one hand and pointing downward.

We interrupt this blog to show a typical toilet with a push button for flushing.

Amalfi has a cathedral.

More postcards.
