Capri

The island where some Roman emperors spent a lot of time, (Augustus and Tiberias) is a beautiful place. It's mountainous terrain makes for complex movement but provides sensational walks and panoramas. You arrive at the port. It has a typical look, lined with restaurants and touristy shops.

From there you take a funicular or taxi up to the town of Capri, the very elegant center of the island. It's a mostly pedestrian area. From the funicular our hotel was a walk of about a half mile on a spectacular walkway, Via Tregara, where only narrow elecrical vehicles carrying luggage or collecting garbage are allowed. Fortunately, they have a system where you give in your luggage right at the port when you arrive and it is delivered to your hotel.
Our first walk was a three hour round trip aerobic "stroll" to Villa Jovis, the ruins of one of Augustus' palaces, set in a spectacular position on top of a mountain. The narrow streets are well maintained but have a lot of up and down.
The central area of the town is an encyclopedia of luxury stores.
The hotel is six stories on a cliff. Fortunately, an elevator takes you down four of those flights.

The view from our terrace was impressive.

You walk everywhere and on those walks you pass interesting gates and gardens
