Five Towns With One Post

Our base was in Manarola, Cinque Terre.

Our place had the long balcony in the building
on the upper left. [Affitacamere San Giorgio]

We had wonderful views.

We explored as much as we could of the

five coastal towns which comprise this

relatively remote area of northwest Italy.

They are Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia,

Manarola and Riomaggiore.

First we took one of the frequent ferries

to Monterosso,

getting good views of

Corniglia and Vernazza along the way.

Corniglia

We lunched at the excellent Miky restaurant

in Monterossa and promenaded along its

beach before ferrying back.

Appetizer at Miky had anchovies
prepared nine different ways.

On the next day we took the train to

Vernazza and hiked for three hours to

Corniglia, on part of the hiking trail

network for which the area is famous.

Many sections are closed for years due

to landslides.

A very informative photo showing Corniglia, our hike destination, in the lower right and
Manarola, where we stayed, in the distance.

The hike had easy parts and hard parts. it would
have been impossible in wet conditions.
Close to a thousand steps plus many other
types of surfaces.

Our hiking efforts were rewarded

by an excellent lunch in Corniglia and

interesting photographs on the wall

of the restaurant,  [A Cantina Da Mananan]

On the following day we took a two-minute train
ride to Riomaggiore just to check it out.
To get to the station in Manarola and a few of
the other  towns, a long tunnel walk is required.

All in all, a spectacular section of Italy.
