Neptune's Grotto Near Alghero - Picnic - Hike

This was a grotto to end all grottoes. We didn't expect such a large and magnificent interior. . 620 steps down and 620 up were worthwhile.
We arrived by land
Some arrive by sea

The stair construction is impressive

Ticket office at the bottom of 620 stairs

It's a cave

And you follow a guide a long way in.

Big

Full of interesting formations

And then you go back up
After the grotto Emma laid out a picnic lunch at a picturesque point nearby.

Bread, Speck (cured ham), pecorino cheese, 3 kinds of olives, 2 types of tomato, figs and plums.

After the picnic Emma hiked for an hour along the coast in a nearby pine forest while Danny recovered in the car.
Emma returns from her hike.

 THE END
Back to Villa Mosca

  2. Amazing. What happens if you get to the ticket desk at the bottom of the 620 steps and discover you forgot your wallet? Re: cave interior, a wise man once taught me the mnemonic “the mites go up and the tites go down.” BTW, did you know that stalactites and stalagmites are paired? One is formed from water dripping down from the ceiling and carrying tiny deposits of minerals that gradually grow downward, and one is formed from those same drips hitting the floor causing mineral deposits to gradually pile up. Learned that from Zander’s show “Dinosaur Train.”
