A 25- minute ferry ride took us from Palau to La Maddalena Island. The Mordina Hotel is charming.
On the day after our arrival on the island of La Maddalena we were lucky to have good weather for an 8-hour sail around the archipelago on Captain Joel's "Finalmente" a lovely 14-meter, 30-year-old Beneteau sailboat. he was assisted by Elenora, his first mate. Fabulous sights of various islands and a precious stop for a swim at one of many isolated beaches on uninhabited Spargi island. The setting was so captivating that Danny was actually inspired to go into the water.
It was fortunate that, on our arrival, Emma resisted the suggestion of the hotel to take a large boat for a group cruise and held out for a small boat just for us. Joel, born in Paris of a French mother and a father from La Maddalene, was a perfect choice. And this was his last sail of the season. (The town has the feel of a resort at the end of a season.)

| An odd Caesar salad. It had chicken. |

| Breakfast room of the Residenz Mordini |
 |
| A record of my mistaken belief the eggs displayed on the breakfast buffet were hard-boiled. However, it was possible to order eggs, cooked in the style one chose. |

 |
| The beach we couldn't resist. Tiramisu on the boat afterwards. Plus Mirto, a Sardinian liqueur and a lemony liqueur made by Joel's friend. |
 |
| Perfectly clear water. Photo doesn't do it justice |
 |
| Perfectly rocky stone - an infinite sculptural display |
 |
| Altogether, a perfect day. |
Amazing experiences and photos! I want to hear more about this eccentric captain. He looks like quite a character! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a day! The beach looks gorgeous, and best of all, devoid of others. Those rock formations look like purposeful sculptures. Captain Joel looks like he has spent a lifetime skippering without sunscreen. When he needed help, did he shout “ELENORA!!”
