Penang - Day Two

Slightly more charm showed on the second day. But the heat, dirt and decrepitude are still not sufficiently balanced by things worth seeing as they are, for example, in India. Today, only the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi Temple was in a well-maintained state. And we still have not come across first-class handicrafts of the traditional type. The few examples we saw, such as a finely woven reed handbag, were priced as antique rarities rather than as actively-practiced crafts. The only craft person to which the tourist office could direct us was someone still making beaded shoes. Sad.
A little better than yesterday
Wedding Car
Scrap Dealers
Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi Temple
Altar
Well-carved dragon on pillar
Pillar stone carving of a sage

About 18" tall

Don't Roll the Balls
Excellent wall drawings
Turbaned tourist yawning next to turbaned guard statue. Special credit to my cinematographer for spotting this fine juxtaposition.
Driver sticks out his tongue at me in a traditional Penang gesture of respect. Idiotic tourist does not realize he is in the hot sun while driver is in the shade. Very distasteful to see tourist treated so cruelly.
