Bali

Hot as hell and more humid. Our usual style of walking around has to be modified with taxis and cold coconut breaks. So far Ubud is a mix of temples, boutiques, craft shops, motorcycles, Chinese tourists and a horde of Westerners who think this blend of Hindu and Buddhist superstitions is enlightening. If the prevailing religion was Christianity it would mean statues of Jesus and the Saints every 50 feet. The exoticism saves it from being totally nauseating. And the people are nice - although I am sad to think it is the effect of a strong opiate of religion and superstition.
Little offerings are everywhere.
Small palm leaf containers with goodies for the gods and demons
Decorating the household guardian
Shrine or temple entrance, or maybe a B&B is tucked in there
Another one - scores and scores of gateways like these.

Rice fields on the way to our B&B
