First thing in the morning back to Ribiero Frio for the second Levada walk at the location to a spectacular viewing balcony named Balcoas.
| Hillsides of yellow flowers |
| Green is the predominant color |
| Note hiker on path in middle distance |
| Purple too |
| Fog and clouds add interest at the viewing balcony |
| Birds abound, but only in illustrated form. |
| Another spectacular view with the narrow eastern end of the island peeking out in the center distance (the hike we couldn't take due to wind and weather) |
| Nearby town of Santana with old A-frame style house, one of a few left with thatched roof. |
Entering one of the more than 100 tunnels, some of which are 2 or 3 kilometers long.
| Typical street in center of Funchal with many doors decorated cleverly, some defaced. |
Quick stop at the farmer's market where, after intense cross-examination, Emma bought a selection of 5 or 6 types of passion fruit at about 20 Euros a kilo
| Fado and dinner at Arsenio's restaurant. We were the only ones in the audience until another couple came. An authentic performance. |
On the walk back to the hotel a mural captures the totality of Madeira
